Ben Padanilam
From a young age, I’ve always had a knack for arguing—my parents like to joke that I was born to be a lawyer. There’s probably a kernel of truth there, but it wasn’t until my first year of law school at Notre Dame that I discovered my true calling in the law: litigation.
After volunteering with the Tenant Advocacy Project in Columbus, Ohio, where I helped families facing eviction and potential homelessness, I saw firsthand how a dedicated advocate could make a profound difference in achieving equal justice under the law. A true advocate levels the playing field—and the most effective ones are good listeners. I realized that to be my best, I had to build trust with my clients and stand by them through tough times.
This is exactly what I do at Mayle LLC. I bring a client-first focus to every case, ensuring that our clients receive the compassionate representation they deserve.
Having handled hundreds of cases in courts across Ohio—from appeals to business, constitutional, construction, contract, personal injury, and zoning disputes—I bring the experience to serve as a trusted counselor and advisor. Last year, I helped clear the name of a mayor who had been wrongfully convicted of several felonies and sentenced to prison. When he sought our help after another law firm told him his case was unwinnable, we believed in him and, drawing on our experience, relentlessly pursued justice. Our determination paid off: The court of appeals reversed his convictions and said he could not be retried.
I continue to collaborate with our clients inside and outside the courtroom. I enjoy the challenge of learning about a case, figuring out the best path forward, and explaining it in a way that’s easy to understand. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I was born and raised in Toledo and returned eager to contribute to the community I care about the most. After grade school at St. Joan of Arc and high school at St. John’s Jesuit, I spent seven years at the University of Notre Dame, completing both college and law school there. Outside the courtroom, I take full advantage of our area. Whether I’m cheering on the Irish and all the Cleveland teams, playing golf at Toledo Country Club (I’ve always enjoyed the game since my days as a caddie at Inverness), or enjoying Monday night trivia at Sidelines in Perrysburg with friends, I’m proud to be part of this community.
It’s great to be back. Let’s connect.
